Lloyd Glasspool Wins The Old Capitol Futures
Glasspool Wins the Inaugural Old Capitol Futures in Iowa City
Englishman Lloyd Glasspool took home the singles main draw title earlier today at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex after beating Evgeny Karlovskiy.
Glasspool won with a two-set victory 7-6, 7-6 in a close battle. Both sets went to bonus points. Over the duration of the tournament, Glasspool finished all but one of his matches with at least one set heading into bonus points. In the semi-finals, Glasspool defeated Alex Brown 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the finals.
Karlovskiy came into the final match feeling confident after defeating No. 3 seed Collin Altamirano but fell short. Karlovskiy was the No. 1 seed in the tournament and is currently ranked No. 245 in the world singles rankings.
After the match, Tournament Director Alex Voss concluded the tournament with the trophy and check presentation with thanks to all who made the tournament possible.
The Old Capitol Futures is set to be part of the USTA Futures 2019 schedule, the date has yet to be announced.
